這首歌詞的原意是要紀念主唱Billie Joe的父親
因為他父親在主唱十歲就去世了
那年的"九月" 死於癌症...
而他父親的去世 什麼也沒留下 反而帶走了Billie Joe的純真
MV的拍攝源於一個發生在美國的真實故事.....
故事的主角Evan和Jamie是一對情侶
和所有的情侶一樣 他們相愛著 幸福的生活著 有自己將來的夢想
但是有一天戰爭號角聲吹起了 Evan被美國徵兵去伊拉克
Jamie知道後 變得歇斯底里
因為她明白 要從戰爭中回來的機率有多低
而Evan是那種有著自己理念的男生 所以就決定加入
他的理想卻在殘酷的戰爭面前顯得是那樣的蒼白無力
彌漫的硝煙 無情的戰火
戰場上只有人與人的屠殺
不幸的事終於發生了...
在一次街道的戰鬥中 美軍遭到頑強的抵抗 Evan中彈身亡
沒過多久 遠在美國的Jamie聽到了噩耗 失聲痛哭.....
聽說這首MV也是為暗諷小布希出兵攻打伊拉克而拍...
因為美國一直在國際上自稱是愛好和平的國家
但卻為了許多理由 募兵出戰
許多人因而被洗腦 成為了 "有志青年"
他們不以為意...說是為了和平與理想的未來而戰
能夠參戰 他們引以為傲
成為軍人 是無尚的光榮
而這一切 卻遠遠忽略了 身旁關愛你的人的感受
"戰爭" 也造就了許多破碎家庭慘劇的發生

大多數人還是認為他寫這首歌除了跟他父親的死有關之外
還跟911有關
但主唱Billie Joe這麼說:
A lot of people are going to view that song as a reflection on 9/11, though that was not my intention in writing it.
For me, September is the month my father died.
People's lives tend to go in cycles: the best times and the worst times of their lives.
And September always ends up being the worst time for me.
For some reason problems always keep cropping up for me in September. It's a heavy month.
